Michel Platini is a French professional footballer, manager, and administrator. An attacking midfielder, he played for Nancy, Saint-Étienne, and Juventus, and the France Olympic team, the France national team, and the Kuwait national team. He also managed the France national team. Regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, he served as President of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations), from 26 January, 2007 to 21 December, 2015, on which day he was banned for eight years following an ethics investigation by the FIFA ethics committee.

Michel is the son of Anna Piccinelli and Aldo Platini, who was a professional footballer and long-time director for AS Nancy. His parents were of Italian descent. He is married to Christelle Bigoni, with whom he has two children.

Michel’s paternal grandfather was named Francesco Platini. Francesco was born in Agrate Conturbia, Province of Novara, Piedmont, Italy.

Michel’s maternal grandmother was named Prima Troian. Prima was born in Sospirolo, Province of Belluno, Veneto, Italy.
