Juliette Gréco was a French actress and cabaret singer.
Her father, Louis Gerald Greco, was of Corsican Italian descent. Her mother, Juliette Lafeychine (Gaubry), was French, from Bordeaux. Juliette was married to pianist Gérard Jouannest, until his death. She had a daughter with her former husband, actor Philippe Lemaire.
Juliette was said to have some degree of Greek ancestry. It does not appear that this is accurate.
Juliette’s paternal grandfather was Laurent Gréco (the son of Giuseppe Rosario Gréco/Grego and Angèle/Angela Maestracci). Laurent was born in Belgodère, Haute-Corse, Corsica. Giuseppe was the son of Francesco Gréco/Grego and Barbara Marchesi. was the daughter of Francesco Maestracci and Angela Francesca Luciani.
Juliette’s paternal grandmother was Marie Irène Lamoretti (the daughter of Luigi Lamoretti and Marie-Françoise/Maria Francesca Pieve). Juliette’s grandmother Marie was born in Bastia, Haute-Corse, Corsica. Luigi was born in Parma, Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
Juliette’s maternal grandfather was Bernard Lafeychine (the son of Pierre Lafeychine and Jeanne Castaing). Bernard was born in Léognan, Gironde, Aquitaine, France. Pierre was the son of Bernard Lafeychine and Jeanne Cazenave. Jeane was the daughter of Bernard Castaing and Marie Bagais.
Juliette’s maternal grandmother was Marie Charlotte Gaubry/Gaubrie (the daughter of Guillaume Gaubrie and Catherine Lamothe). Marie Charlotte was born in Fargues, Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. She definitely had no Greek ancestry (at least recent) as Wikipedia reports.
Her surname, Greco (means “Greek) is common in Southern Italy and in Top 10 of Italian surnames overall. With a name like Giuseppe Rosario, her great-grandfather was probably Sicilian or something (and not typical Corsican of Tuscan or Ligurian descent), but not Greek anyway.
