Michael Ironside is a Canadian actor, producer, director, and screenwriter. His many roles include the films Scanners, Visiting Hours, American Nightmare, Top Gun, Extreme Prejudice, Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II, Watchers, Total Recall, McBain, Major Payne, Starship Troopers, Desert Blue, The Perfect Storm, X-Men: First Class, and Nobody.

Michael is the son of Patricia and Robert Walter Ironside, who was a lighting technician and labourer. Two of his grandparents were born in England, one in Scotland, and one in Canada. He is married to Karen Dinwiddie. He has two children, including one with Karen.

Michael’s paternal grandfather was Findlay Ironside (the son of Findlay Fraser Ironside and Jessie Birnie). Michael’s grandfather Findlay was born in Kininmonth, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Michael’s great-grandfather Findlay was the son of Alexander Ironside and Jean Fraser. Jessie was the daughter of John Birnie and Jessie Ross.

Michael’s paternal grandmother was Rosalia/Rosalie Kerby (the daughter of Isaac Kerby and Sarah North). Rosalie was born in Romsey, Hampshire, England.
