Anika Noni Rose is an American singer and actress. She is known for her roles in the films Dreamgirls and The Princess and the Frog, in the latter voicing Tiana, Disney’s first African-American princess. On stage, she has won the Tony for Caroline, or Change and been nominated for A Raisin in the Sun.
Her parents are both African-American. She is married to actor Jason Dirden.
Referring to having taken a DNA test, she has said:
I found out that I’m from the West Coast of Africa… And I am very British and very Irish and some Native American – black foot, Virginia, and one Asian. I expected it, because I know what my people look like. It’s very, very interesting.
