Maxine Waters is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, she has served as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from California, since January 3, 1991, and Chair of the House Financial Services Committee, since January 3, 2019.

Maxine is the daughter of Velma Lee (Thomas) and Remus Carr. She is married to diplomat and football linebacker Sid Williams, who was U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas, from 1994 to 1998. She was previously married to Edward Waters, and has two children.

Maxine’s maternal grandfather was named Jack Fimic Thomas. Jack was born in Arkansas.

Maxine’s maternal grandmother was Annie Mae Eldridge (the daughter of Doke Eldridge and Florence Barton). Annie was born in Arkansas. Florence was the daughter of P. Barton and Margaret.
