Birth Name: Marisa Maguire Ramirez

Place of Birth: Los Angeles, California, United States

Date of Birth: September 15, 1977

Ethnicity: Mexican (five eighths), along with Scottish, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, German, possibly English, Irish, French, and Native American

Marisa Ramirez is an American actress.

She is the daughter of Francine and Raymond Ramirez. She has a daughter.

Her father is of Mexican descent. One of her maternal great-grandfathers was also of Mexican origin; her mother’s other ancestry is Scottish, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, German, and possibly or likely English, Irish, and French. Marisa has also mentioned having Native American ancestry. It is not clear if this Native American ancestry has been verified/documented, although Marisa may certainly have Indigenous American roots through her Mexican lineage.

Marisa has said:

I am Mexican, American Indian, and Irish. I was born and raised in East LA… I think there could be some improvements [in roles offered to Latina actresses]. A lot of roles are still the typical Latina with an accent who has three kids at home. I’m a woman of color. You don’t need to know what color it is or pigeonhole it. We need more Latinas being portrayed as leading women, not just Jennifer Lopez. I can be Mrs. Smith, not just Mrs. Ramirez. I want to be able to audition for everything.

Marisa’s maternal grandfather was Harold Hugh Maguire (the son of Clyde Jefferson Maguire/McGuire and Mary Emma Cruse). Harold was born in Arkansas. Clyde was the son of William A. McGuire and Rena G. Gollaher. Rena’s mother, Eliza Jane Dunlap, may have been a Cherokee Native American; though census records list her as “white.” Marisa’s great-grandmother Mary Emma was the daughter of Alexander C. Cruse and Lucy Crawford.

Marisa’s maternal grandmother was Stella Alice Raleigh Mellado (the daughter of Peter Mellado and Hortense Raleigh). Stella was born in California. Peter was born in Texas, to a Texas-born father and a New Mexico-born mother, and was likely of Mexican descent. Hortense was born in California, to a father from New England (New York or Delaware) and a California-born mother.

  2. daylaborer89 says:

she looks more white than native american, id still hit that though….

    • Fuzzybear says:

      To daylaborer89

      She looks white to you?

    • alberto.r7 says:

Obviously she looks mostly white because she is mostly white.
She is 5/8 Mexican(that is not a race) and by her features i would say that in her Mexican part she has spanish or other european ancestries(like 1/2 or even 3/4). So she is fundamentally white (65% or more).

  3. Chris says:

She said she is of Mexican, Irish and Native American and one could tell. Sorry, she doesnt’ have any black or afro roots, look it up in wikipedia too.

    • Wtf says:

      @Chris;are you really that thick.

      • 411 says:

        @chris

everyone and their grandma, can see this woman is afro-latina.afro-latino is a label that been put on them, but they just say they’re mexicans, which they are

      To chris

Even this site here says she Afro-latino:
      http://www.latina.com/entertainment/tv/introducing-marisa-ramirez

She may chose to be like others, who say their just Italian(with some other things),you know who I speak of.Also she may not want to be place in a box of certain roles. However she is forever playing either black, mexican or mixed roles.Which to me, she being a hypocrite. She’ll take the roles, but doesn’t want to be Id as part black;she must really hate her biological father

Why do you feel the need to judge people who choose
to identify themselves in a certain manner? You state
she hates her father. How do YOU know this? Do YOU
have access to her thoughts and feelings? Has she stated this publicly or discussed this with you personally? Even if she is a hypocrite, how does this affect You? In what way does her self-identification have an impact on your life? Does it take food off your table or money out of your pocket? If someone is 90%
White & identifies as Black, or is 90% Black & identifies
as White, or looks “purple” but calls himself “green”, who are you to criticize. Last I heard none of this is a
crime. Jessica Alba once said in an article that she
considered herself “American”. The criticism was so
intense & vile, one would think she said she murdered
her own child. Some people on this website, you included, need to get a life. Stop passing judgement
& criticism about how some people choose to ID them- selves. Just because you don’t agree with it, does not make it wrong. To paraphrase the old adage: “People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones”.

Why do you feel the need to judge me,for what I said about her?

Reread the statement, that’s me giving my opinion, didn’t say it was a fact.

You are no different than anyone else on this site. Here you are criticizing and crying, about a comment I made 2 years ago.How does what I said about her impact you?Does it take food off your table or money out of your pocket? Now just like you,I gave my personal opinion, and neither the law nor the site administrator saw it as a crime. Now you might want to take your own advice, and get a life.Stop passing judgement, and tend to your glass house.

  4. Sherley says:

lol @ afro mexican, no Mexicans go around breaking down our heritage because we would have to trace back over 500 years to do that! We are majority people of mixed race, the black slaves didnt just land in Mexico yesterday, we’re talking a mixture of Afro-Euro-native that dates back hundreds of years . Too mixed to be labeled as “:AFRO:
If she was Cuban or Puerto Rican I would understand since many of them have closer afro roots.

    JUST SAYIN.

    • black wallstreet aka Fuzzybear says:

      To Sherley

I agree with you, she’s shouldn’t have to call herself anything other than Mexican. However I’m not the one who made the label up,that was done a long time ago. Then again I get people on here that say, there were never any black people in Mexico. Then there are those who say ok,they were there but only a few of them. Then there are those who say ok they were, but stay in the South like good little puppies. Then they treat the black mexicans like crap, and do Then they make up stupid stuff like this:
      http://j-walkblog.com/images/meminstamp.jpg
But then you say this(If she was Cuban or Puerto Rican I would understand since many of them have closer afro roots.)That like saying that those Mexicans in the South and in the North don’t have strong ties to their African Heritage, which by the way helped to shape the entire culture there.Which from I can see is the farthest thing from the truth
      The Memin Pinguin Stamp

      • ggg says:

memim pinguin is awesomes im from mexcio city and our ties are mostly with the aztecs why i should say that im part african part this and part this if my family have been living here from centuries so im nothing more but mexican with no ties to spain or africa

  5. total23 says:

    Can’t Find Where It Say’s She’s Afro – Latina!

    • Fuzzybear says:

To total23 it’s more fan base site that say it,but since their not legal source I didn’t put them down. They just say Mexican, however most mexicans who are Afro-Mexican like her just call themselves Mexicans.I do know she play an African-American on t.v,so the odds of it being in her back ground are very high, also who beside her family would know better than fans

      • fuzzybear says:

Now other sites are starting to list her as Afro-latina.Man I never thought I would dislike character she played, but that melitta in Spartacus:gods of the arena(HOEEEEEEE)
