M. Emmet Walsh was an American actor and comedian. A prominent character actor, his many roles included the films Midnight Cowboy, Little Big Man, Cold Turkey, What’s Up, Doc?; Serpico, The Gambler (1974), Bound for Glory, Slap Shot, Airport ’77, Straight Time, The Jerk, Ordinary People, Back Roads, Reds, Blade Runner, Silkwood, Blood Simple, Fletch, Wildcats, Critters, Back to School, Raising Arizona, Clean and Sober, Red Scorpion, Camp Nowhere, William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet (1996), My Best Friend’s Wedding, Twilight (1998), The Iron Giant, in voice performance; Christmas with the Kranks, Youth in Revolt, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, Calvary, Knives Out, and Outlaw Posse.

M. was the son of Agnes Katharine (Sullivan) and Harry Maurice Walsh, a customs agent. Both of his parents were of Irish descent. He was raised in rural, Swanton, Vermont.

M.’s paternal grandfather was Maurice Walsh (the son of Patrick Walsh and Margaret Buckley). Maurice was Irish, born in Cork.

M.’s paternal grandmother was Jane/Jenny/Jennie Ann/Anna/Margaret Kinney/Burke (the daughter of Thomas Kinney and Marguerite Burke). Jane was born in Michigan, to Irish parents.

M.’s maternal grandfather was Michael Francis Sullivan (the son of Jeremiah Sullivan and Catherine Murphy). Michael was born in Sainte-Catherine, Québec, Canada, to Irish parents. Jeremiah was the son of Mary Shea.

M.’s maternal grandmother was Agnes Catherine McEnany (the daughter of Thomas McEnany and Rosa/Rose/Rosanna Hand). Agnes was born in Vermont, to Irish parents.
