A prominent character actor, his many roles included the films Midnight Cowboy, Little Big Man, Cold Turkey, What’s Up, Doc?; Serpico, The Gambler (1974), Bound for Glory, Slap Shot, Airport ’77, Straight Time, The Jerk, Ordinary People, Back Roads, Reds, Blade Runner, Silkwood, Blood Simple, Fletch, Wildcats, Critters, Back to School, Raising Arizona, Clean and Sober, Red Scorpion, Camp Nowhere, William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet (1996), My Best Friend’s Wedding, Twilight (1998), The Iron Giant, in voice performance; Christmas with the Kranks, Youth in Revolt, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, Calvary, Knives Out, and Outlaw Posse.
