Joseph Cook was an Australian politician. He served as Prime Minister of Australia, from 24 June, 1913 to 17 September, 1914. He was also Leader of the Opposition, from 17 November, 1908 to 26 May, 1909, 20 January, 1913 to 24 June, 1913, and 8 October, 1914 to 17 February, 1917, Leader of the Anti-Socialist Party, from 17 November, 1908 to 26 May, 1909, and Leader of the Commonwealth Liberal Party, from 20 January, 1913 to 17 February, 1917, among other duties.

Prime Minister Cook was the son of Margaret (Fletcher) and William Cooke, a coalminer. He was married to Dame Mary (Turner) Cook, until his death. The couple had eight children. The couple moved to Lithgow, New South Wales in the late 1880s.

Prime Minister Cook’s paternal grandfather was named Robert Irish. Robert was born in Nantwich, Cheshire, England.

Prime Minister Cook’s paternal grandmother was Martha Cooke (the daughter of John Cooke and Elizabeth Lowe). Martha was born in Leighton, Cheshire, England. John was the son of John Cooke. Elizabeth was the daughter of John Lowe.

Prime Minister Cook’s maternal grandfather was named William Fletcher. William was born in Cheshire, England.

    His genealogy has been changed and he doesn’t appear to have Irish ancestry, only English.

    His paternal grandfather was Robert Irish.
    His paternal grandmother was Martha Cooke (the daughter of John Cooke and Elizabeth Lowe). John was the son of John Cooke. Elizabeth was the daughter of John Lowe.
