Harold Russell was a Canadian-American World War II veteran and actor. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Best Years of Our Lives (1946).
Harold was the son of Gertrude Mary Arlett (Croucher) and Harold John Russell. His parents were from Newfoundland. He moved with his family to Massachusetts in 1921.
Harold’s paternal grandparents were James Russell and Ethel Avery.
Harold’s maternal grandparents were John Thomas Croucher and Eliza Mary Pike. John and Eliza were English. John was born in Alton, Hampshire. Eliza was born in London.
