G. B. Caird was an English churchman, theologian, humanitarian, and biblical scholar. At the time of his death, he was Dean Ireland’s Professor of the Exegesis of Holy Scripture at the University of Oxford. His parents, Esther Love (Bradford) and George Caird, came from Dundee, Scotland. G. B. was the father of stage director and writer John Caird, and the paternal grandfather of musician Eliza Doolittle. He was married to Viola Mary Newport.

G. B.’s paternal grandparents were George Caird (the son of John Caird and Jane/Jean Simpson) and Margaret Wood Butchard (the daughter of James Butchard and Agnes Stewart). John was the son of Francis Caird and Helen Scott.

G. B.’s maternal grandfather was John Samuel Bradford (the son of John Bradford and Elizabeth Smith Jennings). G. B.’s grandfather John was English. G. B.’s great-grandfather John was the son of Thomas Didlick Bradford and Ester Waters. Elizabeth was the daughter of William Jennings and Hester Love.
