Fred MacMurray was an American actor. His roles included the films Double Indemnity, The Shaggy Dog (1959), The Absent-Minded Professor, Follow Me, Boys!; and The Happiest Millionaire, and the show My Three Sons.
Fred was the son of Maleta (Martin) and Frederick Talmadge MacMurray, a concert violinist. His paternal aunt was vaudeville performer and actress Fay Holderness (born Fay MacMurray). He was raised in Madison, where his father taught music, and Beaver Dam, where his mother was from, both in Wisconsin; and also attended school in Quincy, Illinois.
Fred was married to Lillian Lamont, until her death, and then to film actress, singer, and dancer June Haver, until his death. He had two children, who were adopted, with Lillian; and two children, who were adopted, with June.
Fred’s paternal grandfather was Thomas James MacMurray (the son of Thomas MacMurray and Margaret Ann McDonald). Fred’s grandfather Thomas was Scottish.
Fred’s paternal grandmother was named Mary E. Barnes.
Fred’s maternal grandfather was named Jacob Martin (the son of Jacob Varnes Martin). Fred’s grandfather Jacob was born in Wisconsin, to German parents.
