Doc Holliday was an American gunfighter, and a legendary western folk figure. He was involved in the O.K. Corral shootout, and fought in the Mexican-American war. He was noted as a friend of another famous Western Folk figure, Wyatt Earp.
Doc was the son of Alice Jane (McKey) and Henry Burroughs Holliday. He married Mary Katherine (Horony) Holliday, who was Slovak-born, in 1877. He had an adoptive brother and biological sister.
Doc’s paternal grandfather was Robert Alexander Holliday (the son of William Holliday/Holladay and Jane Cooper). Robert was born in South Carolina. William was the son of William H. Holladay/Holliday and Ann Ayres/Ayers, who herself was born in Ireland. Jane was born in Scotland.
Doc’s paternal grandmother was named Rebecca Burroughs (the daughter of Amy Stiles). Rebecca was born in South Carolina.
Doc’s maternal grandfather was William Land McKey (the son of Jonathan McKey/Mackey and Cecelia Land). William was born in Cullompton, Devon, England. Jonathan was the son of John Mackey, who was from Scotland. Cecelia was the daughter of William Land and Mary Agnes Montgomery.
Doc’s maternal grandmother was Jane Cloud (the daughter of Joseph Cloud and Martha Nettles). Jane was born in South Carolina. Joseph was the son of William Cloud and Alice Hardin, who was of part French ancestry. Martha was the daughter of Zachariah D. Nettles and Nancy Scholfield.
