Cedric Richmond is an American lawyer and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he has been a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Louisiana, from January 3, 2011 to January 15, 2021, Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, from January 3, 2017 to January 3, 2019, and Director of the Office of Public Engagement, and Senior Advisor to the President, both, from January 20, 2021 to May 18, 2022.

He was raised in New Orleans East. His father died when he was a child, and his mother worked as a school teacher and owned a small business. Cedric is married to Raquel Greenup, with whom he has one child.

Cedric’s paternal grandfather was Sidney Lanier/Leniar Richmond, Sr. (the son of Benjamin Franklin Richmond and Bessie Collins). Sidney was born in Prentiss, Mississippi.

Cedric’s paternal grandmother was Annie Mae Magee (the daughter of Will/Willie Magee and Ada Barnes). Annie was born in Prentiss, Mississippi.

Cedric’s maternal grandfather was Ervin Jackson, Sr. (the son of Murphy Lee Jackson and Lizzie Nurvis). Ervin was born in Lake Providence, Louisiana. Murphy was the son of Fealing/Feling Jackson and Louisa Christmas.

Cedric’s maternal grandmother was Daisy Ellen Russell (the daughter of Charles Edward Russell and Nancy Ruth Marshall). Daisy was born in Lake Providence, Louisiana. Charles was the son of Jerry Russell.
