Albert was born in Wisconsin, the son of Francis Anthony Grass, whose parents were from Moselle, France; and of Mary Eva Prasch, whose parents were German. Freda was born in Minnesota, to parents from Germany, Charles W. Lussenhop and Ottilia L. Hensel.

Casey’s maternal grandmother was Margaret Ann “Peggy” Piette (the daughter of Leroy Ovila Piette and Elsie Sofia Sommer). Margaret was born in Wisconsin. Leroy was born in Minnesota, the son of Ovilla John Piette, who was from Québec, Canada, and was French-Canadian; and of Frances Kiichli/Küchly, whose parents were from Moselle, France. Elsie was born in Minnesota, to parents from Germany, Adolph William Sommer and Dorothea Ruth Rath.
