Leo McCarey was an American filmmaker. He twice won the Academy Award for Best Director, for The Awful Truth (1937) and Going My Way (1944).
Leo was the son of Leona and Thomas McCarey, a prominent boxing promoter. His father was born in Illinois, of Irish descent. His mother was a French emigrant, from Paris. His brother, Ray McCarey, also became a film director. Leo was married to Stella Martin, until his death, with whom he had a daughter.
