Alfonso López Michelsen was a Colombian politician and lawyer. He served as President of Colombia, from 7 August, 1974 to 7 August, 1978.

Alfonso was the son of María Michelsen de López and Alfonso López Pumarejo, who was himself President of Colombia, from 31 January, 1886 to 20 November 1959.

Alfonso’s paternal grandfather was Pedro Aquilino López Medina (the son of Ambrosio López Pinzón and María Felisa Medina Morales). Pedro was born in Santafé de Bogotá, Cundinamarca. Ambrosio was the son of Jerónimo López and Rosa Pinzón Vélez. María was the daughter of José Narciso Medina Ramírez and María del Campo/Carmen Morales Hernández.

Alfonso’s paternal grandmother was Maria del Rosario Pumarejo Cotes (the daughter of Juan Salvador Sinforoso Pumarejo Quirós and Josefa Marina Cotes de Oñate). Maria was born in Santa Marta, Magdalena. Juan was the son of José Domingo Pumarejo Daza and Ciríaca/Siriaca Quirós Daza. Josefa was born in Venezuela, and was the daughter of Silvestre Jose Cotes Meriño and María del Rosario Oñate.

Alfonso’s maternal grandfather was Carlos Michelsen Uribe (the son of Karl Ivan Michelsen Koppel and María del Carmen/Carmelita Uribe Ibañez). Alfonso’s grandfather Carlos was born in Bogotá, Santafé de Bogotá, Cundinamarca. Alfonso’s great-grandfather Karl was born in Nyborg, Denmark, to a Jewish family of Polish Jewish and German Jewish descent, and was the son of Isak/Isaac Michelsen Koppel and Rosine/Rossine Koppel Isaacs. Alfono’s great-grandmother María was born in Bogotá, the daughter of Josef Miguel Saturnino de Uribe y Uribe Santos and Bernardina del Espiritu Santo Ibañez de Vidal Arias y Rodriguez.

Alfonso’s maternal grandmother was Antonia Lombana Barreneche (the daughter of Cayetano Lombana Buendía and Rosa Antonia Juana María Barreneche Morote/Morato y Munive). Alfonso’s grandmother Antonia was born in Santafé de Bogotá, Cundinamarca. Cayetano was the son of Jose María Lombana Cuervo and María Antonia Buendía Ortiz. Rosa was the daughter of Mariano Barreneche Escobar and Rosa María Morote Munive.

Alfonso was a third cousin, once removed, of French model, fashion designer, and businessperson Inès de La Fressange. Alfono’s paternal great-great-grandparents, José Domingo Pumarejo Daza and Ciríaca/Siriaca Quirós Daza, were also Inès’ maternal great-great-great-grandparents. Alfonso was also a third cousin, twice removed, of actress, comedian, and model Sofía Vergara and actress and model Sandra Vergara; and a third cousin, three times removed, of Sofía’s son, internet personality Manolo González. Alfonso’s great-great-grandparents José and Ciríaca were also Sofía’s and Sandra’s maternal great-great-great-great-grandparents.
