Lillo was born in Bogotá, Colombia as Saul Rodriguez. He was adopted as an infant and renamed Lillo Brancato, Jr. His adoptive parents, Domenica Longobucco and Lillo Brancato, were Italian emigrants to New York, with Lillo born in Sicily and Domenica in Calabria. He was raised in Yonkers, New York. He has stated, “I consider myself Italian. I was raised to eat pasta.”
