Enrique Gil is a Filipino actor, dancer, entrepreneur, commercial model, and singer. His roles include the films She’s the One, Just The Way You Are, Everyday I Love You, Dukot, My Ex and Whys, Seven Sundays, and Alone/Together, and the series Mula Sa Puso, Budoy, Princess and I, Muling Buksan ang Puso, Forevermore, Dolce Amore, Bagani, and Make It With You. He is nicknamed “Quen,” “Quenito,” and “King of the Gil.”

He is the son of Barbara Anne “Bambie” Plattring Bacay and Enrique Amadeo “Ricky” Matute Gil III. His parents worked as crew for Philippine Airlines. He is said to be a relative of actor and television presenter Dingdong Dantes.

Enrique’s paternal grandfather was Enrique Gil y Sola (or Enrique Sola Gil, Jr. in Filipino, the son of Enrique Resurrección Juan de Dios Gil é Izaurieta and Francisca Sola y García, or Francisca García Sola in Filipino). Enrique’s great-grandfather Enrique was Spanish, from Bilbao, Biscay, and was the son of Lucio Enrique Gil y Gorroño and Felipa Elisa Izaurieta y Artaza. Francisca was the daughter of Baldomero Sola Olea, who was Spanish, from Ferrol, A Coruña, and of Rosa García y Araneta (or Rosa Araneta García in Filipino), whose father was from Asturia, Spain.

Enrique’s paternal grandmother was María Luisa Matute Gemora (or María Luisa Gemora Matute in Filipino, the daughter of Amadeo Matute Olave, or Amadeo Olave Matute in Filipino, and of Rosario Gemora de la Cruz, or Rosario de la Cruz Gemora in Filipino). María Luisa was born in Manila, Metropolitan Manila. Amadeo was a Spanish emigrant, from Mansilla de la Sierra, La Rioja, and was the son of Eduardo Matute and Florencia Olave. Enrique’s great-grandmother Rosario was the daughter of Susano Gemora y Aguilar (or Susano Aguilar Gemora in Filipino), who was of part Irish and Spanish descent, and of Catalina de la Cruz.

Enrique’s maternal grandfather was Uldarico Bacay (the son of Silviano Cermeño Melero and Consorcia Bacay). Uldarico was born in Cebu City, Cebu. Silviano was a Spanish vice consul in Cebu City, and was born in Boadilla de Rioseco, Palencia, Castile and León, Spain. Consorcia was Filipino, and was the daughter of Juan Rivera, who was Tagalog, from Cavite, and of María Bacay y Salazar (or María Salazar Bacay in Filipino).

Enrique’s maternal grandmother was Elma Carin Plattring (the daughter of Melchior, or Melchor in Spanish, Plattring, and of Simplicia Carín). Melchior was an Ashkenazi Jewish pawnshop manager, from Tarnopol, Galicia, Austria, now Ternopil, Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine, who moved, along with his father and three siblings Dorota, Bernard and Naftali (or Dorotea, Bernardo and Natalio in Spanish, respectively) to Cebu City around 1897. He was the son of Pesach (or Marcos in Spanish) Plattring and Lea Afner. Enrique’s great-great-uncle and aunt, Naftali and his wife Antonie (Sommer), were deported from Berlin to Riga Ghetto during Holocaust, where they were last seen alive, and presumed killed. Enrique’s great-grandmother Simplicia was Filipino, from Dalaguete, Cebu.
