Jonas Åkerlund is a Swedish film director, screenwriter, music video director, and drummer. He has directed the films Spun, Horsemen (2009), Small Apartments, Lords of Chaos, which he also co-wrote; and Polar (2019); and the show Clark, which he also wrote for. He was a member of black metal band Bathory.

Jonas is the son of Solveig Marie-Louise and Hans Uno Åkerlund. He is married to Bea.

Jonas’ paternal grandfather was Karl Uno Åkerlund (the son of Uno Felix Åkerlund and Edla Charlotta Bergström). Karl was born in Knivsta, Uppsala. Jonas’ great-grandfather Uno was a Finland Swede, from Lapua, Western Finland, and was the son of Karl Gustaf Åkerlund and Sofia Thulén. Edla was the daughter of Fredrik Bergström and Johanna Sofia Alm.

Jonas’ paternal grandmother was Karin Sofia Backman (the daughter of Johan Hjalmar Backman and Anna Sofia Karlsdotter). Karin was born in Stockholm. Johan was the son of Anders Backman and Margaretha Christina Johansdotter. Anna was the daughter of Carl Johan Svensson and Anna Lovisa Karlsdotter.

Jonas’ maternal grandfather was Karl Julius Myrander (the son of Per Julius Petersson and Elsa Maria Lovisa Myrong). Karl was born in Växjö, Kronoberg.
