Hozier is an Irish musician, singer, and songwriter. He often draws on folk, soul, and blues, and uses religious and literary themes. He gained international success with the song “Take Me to Church.”

He is the son of Raine Hozier, an artist, and John Byrne, a blues drummer who also worked at a bank. Hozier has the last words of Irish poet Seamus Heaney tattooed on his arm, “noli timere,” Latin for “don’t be afraid.”

Hozier was raised Quaker.
