The American mixed martial artist is of Puerto Rican and Irish descent and was born in Philadelphia, USA. Growing up in Kensington, he built a reputation on the street as a tough street fighter beating up much larger opponents. He took his street fighting skills to MMA and combined them with conventional MMA training at the American Top Team in Florida.

He was signed to the Bellator Fighting Championships because of his hispanic heritage and possible cross-over appeal. However he is unable to speak Spanish evident in his attempt to speak Spanish in post fight interviews.
