William McKinley was an American politician. A Republican, he served as the 25th President of the United States, from March 4, 1897 to September 14, 1901. He was elected to the position in 1896 and 1900. He served as president until his assassination. He was previously a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio, from March 4, 1877 to May 27, 1884, and again from March 4, 1885 to March 3, 1891, and a Governor of Ohio, from January 11, 1892 to January 13, 1896.

President McKinley was the son of Nancy Campbell (Allison) and William McKinley. He was married to Ida Saxton McKinley, with whom he had two children.

President McKinley’s paternal grandfather was James Stevenson McKinley (the son of David McKinley and Sarah Gray). James was born in Wolf Creek Township, Mercer, Pennsylvania. David was the son of John McKinlay/McKinley, who was born in Ireland, and of Margaret Morton. Sarah was the daughter of John Gray and Hannah Stevenson/Stephenson.

President McKinley’s paternal grandmother was Mary “Polly” Rose (the daughter of Andrew Rose and Hannah Chapman). Mary “Polly” was born in New Jersey.

President McKinley’s maternal grandfather was named Abner Allison. Abner was born in Pennsylvania.

President McKinley’s maternal grandmother was named Ann Campbell. Ann was born in Pennsylvania or Ohio.
