He was a candidate for the Republican Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 2000.

Gary is the son of Elizabeth “Betty” (Gossett) and Stanley Rynolds Bauer.

Gary’s paternal grandfather was named Robert Lee Bauer. Robert was born in Kentucky, to German parents.

Gary’s paternal grandmother was named Margaret Wagner.

Gary’s maternal grandfather was William John Gossett (the son of Lindsey Logan Gossett and Clarissa “Clara” Roland). William was born in Kentucky. Lindsey was the son of Elijah/Eli D. Gossett and Mary Elizabeth Cisney. Clarissa was the daughter of Jacob Roland and Hannah W. Munson.

Gary’s maternal grandmother was Alice Hengelbrok (the daughter of William F. Hengelbrok and Katharina/Katherine Knarr). Katharina was born in Kentucky, the daughter of Friedrich Jacob Knerr and Anna Maria Buchheit, who were German.
