Rosalind Russell was an American actress, comedian, screenwriter, and singer. Her roles include the films His Girl Friday, My Sister Eileen, Sister Kenny, Mourning Becomes Electra, Auntie Mame, A Majority of One, Gypsy (1962), The Trouble with Angels, and Mrs. Pollifax-Spy. She also wrote the latter film, credited as C. A. McKnight. She was known for portraying women in professional roles.

Rosalind was the daughter of Clara A. (McKnight), a teacher, and James Edward Russell, a lawyer. She was married to Danish-American producer Frederick Brisson, until her death, with whom she had a son. Frederick was the son of Danish actor Carl Brisson.

Rosalind’s paternal grandfather was named James Russell. James was Irish.
