Andy Beshear is an American politician and attorney. A member of the Democratic Party, he has served as Governor of Kentucky, since December 10, 2019. He was previously Attorney General of Kentucky, from January 4, 2016 to December 10, 2019.

Andy is the son of Jane and Steve Beshear (Steven Lynn Beshear), a politician and attorney, who himself served as Attorney General of Kentucky, from December 11, 1979 to December 13, 1983, Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky, from December 13, 1983 to December 8, 1987, and Governor of Kentucky, from December 11, 2007 to December 8, 2015. He was raised in Lexington. Andy is married to Britainy, with whom he has two children.

Andy’s patrilineal line can be traced to Benoit/Bennet Benjamin Brasseur, who was born c. the 1610s, in Carpentras, Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France, and to Benoit’s wife, Mary Browne, who was born in Isle of Thanet, Kent, England. The two settled in Virginia.

Andy’s paternal grandfather was Orlando Russell Beshear (the son of Eddie/Edward Monroe Beshear and Charlena Ridley). Orlando was born in Kentucky, and served as mayor of Russell Springs, where he also owned a furniture store, operated a funeral home, and was a Primitive Baptist lay minister. Andy’s great-grandfather Eddie was also a Primitive Baptist lay minister, and was the son of James Russell Beshear and Nancy Emaline English/Inglish/Inglis. Andy’s great-grandmother Charlena was the daughter of Orlando Petty Ridley and Cynthia Catherine Menser.

Andy’s paternal grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Joiner (the daughter of Maxey Green Joiner and Nettie Spickard). Mary Elizabeth was born in Kentucky. Maxey was the son of Israel Green Joiner and Mary Elizabeth Hudson. Nettie was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Spickard and Mary Susan Stevenson.

Andy’s maternal grandfather was Fred Moon Klingner (the son of Charles Klingner and Euphil E. “Euphie” Morrow). Fred was born in Missouri. Charles was the son of John Klingner, whose father was born in Saxony, Germany, and of Mary Louise Shade.

Andy’s maternal grandmother was Carolyn Estelle Graham (the daughter of Thomas Robert Graham and Carrie Northington). Carolyn was born in Kentucky. Thomas was the son of Robert Mills Graham and Martha Elizabeth Hilton. Carrie was the daughter of Gustavus Adolphus Northington and Hannah Manor.
