John Mills was an English actor. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Ryan’s Daughter (1970).
John was the son of Edith Catherine (Baker), a theatre box office manager, and Lewis Mills, a mathematics teacher. He was married to actress and writer/dramatist Mary Hayley Bell, until his death. The couple had three children, actresses Juliet Mills and Hayley Mills, and screenwriter Jonathan Mills.
John’s maternal grandfather was John George Baker (the son of John Emmanuel Baker and Jane Hill/Robertson Wise).
John’s maternal grandmother was named Elizabeth Darnall.
