Vanessa Kirby is an English actress. She is known for playing Princess Margaret on The Crown, and for her roles in the films The Rise (2012), About Time, Queen and Country, Jupiter Ascending, Bone in the Throat, Everest (2015), Genius (2016), Kill Command, Me Before You, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and its sequels; Mr Jones, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Pieces of a Woman, The World to Come, Italian Studies, The Son (2022), and Napoleon (2023); and on television’s Great Expectations (2011), Labyrinth (2012), The Dresser (2015), and The Frankenstein Chronicles.

Her father is urologist/prostate surgeon Roger Kirby (Roger Sinclair Kirby). Her brother is teacher and blogger Joe Kirby.

Vanessa’s paternal grandfather was Kenneth S. Kirby, a professor of cell chemistry, and fellow of the Royal Society (Kenneth Stanley Kirby, the son of Arthur S. Kirby and Alice Maud Willis). Kenneth was born in Whitby, Yorkshire, England. Arthur was the son of I. Kirby and Hannah.

Vanessa’s paternal grandmother was Janet Hazel Sturgess (the daughter of Frank Sheldon Sturgess and Kathleen Alice Hodgkinson). Janet was born in Aston, Warwickshire, England. Frank was the son of Sheldon Sturgess and Lizzie Tunnicliff. Kathleen was the daughter of Charles Hodgkinson and Alice Midwinter.

Vanessa’s maternal grandfather’s surname was Cooper.
