I suspect that her surname derived from the Danish patronymic Pedersen. I believe that she might have been descended from this ancestor https://www.geni.com/people/Barthold-Pieterse-SV-PROG/6000000003498139628 although not confirmed yet.

Am I the only one who thinks she looks like Aishwarya Rai here?

That is somewhat a bit true, but Afrikaner is majority Dutch in South Africa. The french and German are a tad bit lower in that country. Who cares though, Afrikaner is an ethnicity of Caucasian South Africans and sometimes other countries.

wikipedia: Afrikaners (including the Boer subgroup) are an ethnic group in Southern Africa whose native tongue is Afrikaans: a Germanic language which derives primarily from 17th century Dutch, and a variety of other languages. They are descended from Dutch Calvinists, Germans and French Huguenots, also Frisians, English, and minor numbers of other Europeans and non-European slaves and indentured servants

      • Me myself and I says:

Afrikaners (including the Boer subgroup)[3] are an ethnic group descended from Dutch settlers and other ethnic groups living in Southern Africa whose native tongue is Afrikaans; a Germanic language developed in Africa which derives primarily from 17th century Dutch.[4][5] In South Africa, they constitute approximately 5% of the total population.[1]
The term Afrikaner as used in the 20th and 21st century refers to a specific South African ethnic group that is Afrikaans-speaking, i.e. those of the larger Cape Dutch origin and of the smaller Boer origin, who are descended from European settlers who first arrived in the Cape of Good Hope during the period of administration (1652 – 1795) by the Dutch East India Company (Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie or VOC).

Obviously they are Dutch (some mainly, some wholly).

Afrikaner is not Dutch only. Most afrikaners has French Huguenot and German heritage too
