Rose Cousins is a Canadian folk-pop singer and songwriter.

Her father, John Winston Cousins, is a farmer, also from Park Corner. Her mother, Linda, is a native of Guelph, Ontario. She is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Rose’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to her fifth great-grandfather, James Cousins.

Rose’s paternal grandfather was John Edwin Cousins (the son of John Sutherland Cousins and Elizabeth Anne Campbell). Rose’s grandfather John was born in Park Corner. Rose’s great-grandfather John was the son of Archibald Cousins and Margaret “Maggie” Sutherland, whose own parents were Scottish. Elizabeth was the daughter of William Campbell and Elizabeth MacLeod.

Rose’s paternal grandmother was Ellen Louise Harrington (the daughter of William John “Billy” Harrington and Maud Lulu Ramsay). Ellen was born on Spring Valley, Prince Edward Island. William was the son of William Henry Harrington, who was of Irish descent, and of Ellen Lockhart, whose own parents were Scottish. Maud was the daughter of William George Ramsay and Jane Hamilton Stewart.

Rose’s maternal grandfather was Bruce Donald MacNamara (the son of Donald George MacNamara and Ellen Maria England). Bruce was born in Toronto, Ontario. Rose’s great-grandfather Donald was the son of an Irish emigrant, John MacNamara, and of an English emigrant, Elizabeth Clark, of Staffordshire. Ellen was the daughter of English emigrants, William England, of Bristol, and Ellen Maria Vernon, of Eckington, Worcestershire.

Rose’s maternal grandmother was Mary Helen Johnson (the daughter of John Manners Johnson and Helen Swinton Hutton). Mary was born in Toronto, Ontario. John was an English emigrant, from St Pancras, London, and was the son of Alfred Kirby Johnson, who was of part German descent, and of Mary Ann Manners. Helen was a Scottish emigrant, from Rumford, Falkirk, and was the daughter of James William Hutton and Margaret Ross “Maggie” Swinton.

Rose’s matrilineal ancestry can be traced back to her fourth great-grandmother, Janet Mealin.
