Rod Serling was an American screenwriter, playwright, television producer, and narrator. He created the The Twilight Zone franchise.

Rod was the son of Esther Lillian (Cooper) and Samuel Lawrence Serling. His father was born in Michigan, to Jewish parents from Russia/Poland. His mother was a Lithuanian Jewish immigrant. His brother was novelist and aviation writer Robert J. Serling. Rod was married to Carolyn Kramer, until his death. The couple had two children. Rod joined the Unitarian church with Carolyn. Unitarianism does not require adherence to Christianity.

Rod’s paternal grandfather was Israel/Itche/Isaac/Isador Serling (the son of Shimon Shimel Serlin). Israel was born in Jałówka, białostocki, podlaskie, Poland. Shimon was the son of Yankel Oyzer Szerling and Chana Laja.

Rod’s paternal grandmother was Anna Shacolsky (the daughter of Arie Leib Shacolsky).

Rod’s maternal grandparents were Myer Cooper and Rose Cohn/Cohen.
