Renato Russo was a Brazilian singer and songwriter. He was the lead singer of alternative rock band Legião Urbana.

He was the son of Maria do Carmo de Oliveira and Renato Manfredini. His family lived for a time in Forest Hills, Queens, New York, U.S., during his teenage years. Renato died of AIDS. He had one son.

Renato’s paternal grandfather was Alberto Manfredini (the son of Pietro Sabino Antonio Manfredini and Maria Teresa Malvasori). Alberto was born in Bacacheri, Curitiba, Paraná, to Italian parents, from Picenengo and Sesto ed Uniti, both in province of Cremona, Lombardy. Pietro was the son of Alessandro Manfredini and Rosa Fieschi. Maria was the daughter of Giovanni Malvasori and Rosa Comandulli.

Renato’s paternal grandmother was named Castorina Debenedicto Marcondes (the daughter of Maria Ambrósia Marcondes).

Renato’s maternal grandfather was José Mariano de Barros Oliveira (the son of Francisco Estêvão de Oliveira and Heliodora Alaide de Barros). José was born in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Pernambuco. Francisco was the son of Ezequias Bernardes de Oliveira and Maria José. Heliodora was the daughter of Inácio Martiniano de Barros and Catarina Barbosa.

Renato’s maternal grandmother was Leontine Carmen Manfredini (the daughter of Alexandre Manfredini and Adelina Armstrong). Alexandre was the older brother of Renato’s paternal grandfather, Alberto, making Renato’s parents first cousins, once removed. Adelina was the daughter of Manoel Thomas Armstrong, whose father, Henry Armstrong, was Irish, from Dublin; and of Belisária Ribeiro Baptista. Through his great-great-grandfather Manoel, Renato also has a distant French ancestor, Jacques Frestier, who was born, c. 1620 in Marseille, France, and had moved to Brazil.

    i always thought he had some black ancestry but apparently he was nearly all european with maybe distant indigenous ancestry from the colonial times
