Phil Gramm is an American economist and politician. He was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas, from January 3, 1979 to January 3, 1985, and a U.S. Senator from Texas, from January 3, 1985 to November 30, 2002. He switched his affiliation from Democratic to Republican in 1983.
He was a candidate for the Republican Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 1996.
He is the son of Florence (Scroggins) and Kenneth Marsh Gramm. He is married to Wendy Lee Gramm, an economist and scholar, with whom he has two children. Wendy is of Korean and Native Hawaiian descent.
