Ollanta Humala is a Peruvian politician and military officer. He was President of Peru, from 28 July, 2011 to 28 July, 2016. He has been President of the Peruvian Nationalist Party, since 26 August, 2016, and, previously, from 3 October, 2005 to 30 December, 2013, as well as, President pro tempore of the Union of South American Nations, from 29 June, 2012 to 30 August, 2013, and President pro tempore of the Pacific Alliance, from 3 July, 2015 to 1 July, 2016.

His father, Isaac Humala Núñez, was an ethnic Quechua indigenous labour lawyer; he is the idealogical leader of Peruvian ethnic nationalist group Movimiento Etnocacerista. His mother, Elena Tasso Heredia, was of half Quechua and half Italian descent, the latter from an old Italian family, established in Peru at the end of the 19th century. Ollanta is married to politician Nadine Heredia (Nadine Heredia Alarcón), with whom he has three children. Nadine was President of the Peruvian Nationalist Party, from 30 December, 2013 to 26 August, 2016.

Ollanta’s paternal grandfather was Teófilo Humala Vara (the son of Genaro Humala Narrea and María Vara). Teófilo was born in Oyolo, Coracora, Ayacucho, Peru.

Ollanta’s paternal grandmother was María Sócrates Núñez Heredia (the daughter of Pedro Pablo Núñez Narrea and Timotea Heredia Pérez). María was born in Oyolo, Coracora, Ayacucho. Timotea was the daughter of Teodoro Heredia Retamozo and María Concepción Pérez Gutiérrez.

Ollanta’s maternal grandfather was José Tasso Valzania (the son of Termilio Tasso Landa and María Angélica Valzanía Tirado). José was born in Lima, Peru. Termilio was the son of Italian immigrants, Carlo Tasso and Juana Landa. The Tasso family is from Liguria. María was also the daughter of Italian immigrants, Orestes Valzania and Alejandrina Tirado.

Ollanta’s maternal grandmother was María Heredia Palomino (the daughter of Manuel Heredia and María Palomino). María was born in Colta, Ayacucho. Manuel was the son of José Heredia.

    he has less than 25% of Italian ancestry, Tirado is a Spanish last name.
