    Wow she’s fine. What up with all these afrikaner actresses, they seem to be above average looking about 90% of the time lol… Guess brittish+dutch+german is the glorius white “mix”… Literally never saw a famous person with this background that was not good looking

      And you haven’t seen Afrikaner men.

      Unique specimens, in Rugby (that is not just a sport in SA) they are the only ones who can physically match the Pacific Islanders (Samoans and Tongans mainly), so most professional teams have plethora of them, in their ranks. Also when TVs have a camera shot toward fans, you can see enormous men in the stands.

      I’m only of 1/4th European descent but I have partial Dutch, German, and English Afrikaner descent. Proud of that mix, best mix in the world.

    White South African DNA is 5% not European on average.

      Depends on the person/families and parts of South Africa they come from. Many White Europeans in South Africa do live in White communities and have for generations. There are different parts of South Africa though. In her case, it’s shown to be just European.

      It’s possible to be of just European background. 10 percent is actually very high and most White South Africans do not have that much African descent. Many have less than 1 percent or none.

        Afrikaner genome is not up to 10% Sub-Sarahan African. The non European part actually contains various contributions from Africa (either Bantu and Khoisan), Madagascar, South Asia, Indonesia and China too. Basically some of the first German and Dutch settlers (not the French Huguenots inbred), in mid 1600s/early 1700s, were lonely men who married either local women or enslaved ones from Indian Ocean countries. Thus their descendants are in the genome of any Afrikaner person as you see in this site. This is how a random Afrikaner person DNA test looks like: https://preview.redd.it/tfg5hjjd9y741.jpg?width=1181&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f2e229c3021683fb969c9e8b88277dee6f94c00

        Reddit has only a few people who posted online and people usually post more interesting results. There have also been recent migrations from Europe to South Africa. Many White Europeans also bred with close family members. They are also White south Africans. After 1700s. So unless they do a DNA test, we can assume what is shown here.

          I haven’t seen an Afrikaner who didn’t have distant African and Asian ancestry, including Roger Federer, Richard Dawkins, and Princess Charlene of Monaco. It’s basically impossible due to the inbreeding. Afrikaners are all fifth cousins of each other. The only way they wouldn’t have it is if they aren’t of the Afrikaner ethnicity at all and their ancestry is all recent European. Sometimes that happens with white Africans like Anya Taylor-Joy’s mother who is Zambian of English and Spanish ancestry. But in that case they wouldn’t be Afrikaner.

          Basically, Afrikaner is its own ethnicity at this point and African and Asian ancestry is part of their genome. They are over 90% European on average but still have a little bit of African and Asian due to their distant enslaved ancestors.

          People freak out about this because of their racist past and are surprised that they aren’t “pure white” or whatever. But I’m really not. It’s an insular community and less than 10% admixture is not a big deal.

          Also, I still think Madelaine’s father might not be Afrikaner and that only her mother is for the mere fact that I can’t find any Afrikaners with the surname Petsch.

          • andrew says:

            Petsch surname is German and arrived in South Africa in late 1800s.

            Basically the popular culture that tells Afrikaners are Dutch descendants is total crap given the —-load of German and French surnames, and the latter first names (Francois, Jacques, Louis, Jean etc)

    @ashash

    If “Grobbelaar” is her mother’s maiden name, she descends from Johan Grobler and Geertruyd Knoesen (the daughter of Cornelis Knoetzen and Dirkje Helms). Johan was born, c. 1678, in Tangermünde, Germany and came to South Africa in about 1708. Geertruyd was the daugher of a Danish immigrant and of a German/Dutch mother.

    “Petsch” is an unusual surname for South Africa. She might descend from this man (https://www.stamouers.com/stamouers/surnames-n-to-q/385-peach-ricardo-augustino) but I’m not sure.
