Lady Bird Johnson was an American socialite. She was the wife of Lyndon B. Johnson, who was Vice President of the United States and then President of the United States, and, as such, she was Second Lady of the United States, from 1961 to 1963, and then First Lady of the United States, from 1963 to 1969.

Lady Bird was the daughter of Minnie Lee (Patillo) and Thomas Jefferson “T.J.” Taylor, a merchant, politician, and landowner who traded in cotton. Lady Bird and Lyndon had two children. Her nickname came from her nursemaid Alice Tittle, who said she was as “purty as a ladybird.”

Lady Bird’s maternal great-great-great-great-great-grandfather James Pattillo was born, c. 1690, in Scotland. The surname was evidently spelled Pittilok many generations earlier.

Lady Bird’s paternal grandfather was Thomas Jefferson Taylor (the son of William Lancaster Taylor and Sarah Ann Shaffer). Thomas was born in Alabama. William was the son of William Lancaster Taylor and Nancy Ann Collins.

Lady Bird’s paternal grandmother was Emma Louisa/Louise Bates (the daughter of Elihu Bates and Elizabeth Parr). Emma was born in South Carolina.

Lady Bird’s maternal grandfather was Luther “Luke” Pattillo (the son of Alfred Cato Pattillo and Catherine Shelbach). Luther was born in Alabama. Alfred was the son of Littleberry Pattillo and Mary Ann Simpson.

Lady Bird’s maternal grandmother was Sarah Jane Myrick (the daughter of George Myrick and Nancy Mason Temple). Sarah was born in Alabama. Nancy was the daughter of Benjamin Temple and Jincy Stembridge.

Lady Bird was a fourth cousin, three times removed, of comedian and actor Adam Carolla, through their shared ancestors Elizabeth and James Pattillo.
