Keith Starmer is an English politician and barrister. He has been Leader of the Labour Party, and thus Leader of the Opposition, since 4 April, 2020. He has been a Member of Parliament for Holborn and St Pancras, from 8 May, 2015, and was previously Director of Public Prosecutions, from 1 November, 2008 to 1 November, 2013.

He is the son of Josephine (Baker), a nurse, and Rodney Starmer, a toolmaker. He is married to solicitor Victoria Alexander, with whom he has two children.

Keir’s patrilineal line traces to John Thomas Starmer, who was born, c. 1787, in Hundleby, Lincolnshire.

Keir’s paternal grandfather was Herbert Starmer (the son of Gustavus Adolphus Starmer and Katherine Mitchell). Herbert was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England. Gustavus Adolphus was the son of George Starmer and Matilda Buswell. Katherine was the daughter of James Mitchell and Johanna Landrigan, whose parents were Irish, her father from Tipperary, County Tipperary, and her mother from Kilkenny, County Kilkenny.

Keir’s paternal grandmother was Doris Edith Parsons (the son of Arthur Kenrick Parsons and Emma Halsey). Doris was born in Godstone, Surrey, England. Arthur was the son of William Thomas Parsons and Elizabeth English. Emma was the daughter of John Halsey and Adelaide Cannell.

Keir’s maternal grandfather was Ernest G. Crouch-Baker (the son of Alfred William Crouch Baker and Edith May Burgess). Ernest was born in Tonbridge, Kent, England. Alfred was the son of Alfred Crouch Baker and Ann Boorman. Edith was the daughter of William Burgess.

Keir’s maternal grandmother was Beryl Eileen Patricia Jones Quinnell (the daughter of Richard George Quinnell and Elsie Ada Such). Beryl was born in Farnham, Surrey, England. Richard was the son of Richard Quinnell, who was born in Cork, Ireland, and of Mary Ann Pusey, who was English. Elsie was the daughter of William John Such and Elizabeth Alice Monk.
