Josh Lucas is an American actor. His roles include A Beautiful Mind, Hulk, and Glory Road, among many other films.

Josh is the son of Michele and Don Maurer, an ER physician. He has a son with his former wife, writer Jessica Henriquez. Josh has said that his parents gave him the middle names Easy Dent because they were living on a Native American reservation when he was born.

Josh’s paternal grandfather was Ervin Wenzel Maurer (the son of Wenzel/Wenzil Henry Maurer and Franziska/Frances/Francis Kobilka). Ervin was born in Minnesota. Josh’s great-grandfather Wenzel was Bohemian Czech. Franziska was born in Minnesota, the daughter of Czech parents, John P. Kobilka/Kobylka and Anna Hoffhansel/Hoffhansal/Hofhanzlova.

Josh’s paternal grandmother was Helen Marie Wilk (the daughter of Alexander Paul “Alex” Wilk and Catherine/Katy E. Chudy). Helen was born in Arkansas. Alexander was Polish, the son of Paul Wilk and Tekla. Catherine was born in Arkansas, the daughter of Polish parents, Michael M. Chudy and Marcella/Marcyanna Lech.

Josh’s maternal grandfather was William Alva LeFevre (the son of Philip D. LeFevre and Grace Edna Oakley). William was born in Tarrytown, New York, and had partly deep roots in the U.S., with English, some Dutch, and more distant German, Scottish, as well as likely French, ancestry. Philip was the son of Peter D. LeFevre and Margaret Elizabeth Blass. Grace was the daughter of William B. Oakley and Julia Duryea Wicks.

Josh’s maternal grandmother was Betty May/Mae Thomas (the daughter of William Reuben Thomas and Elizabeth Smith). Betty was born in New York. William was born in Canada, the son of William Thomas, whose father was Scottish, and of Mary Elizabeth Tucker, who was an English emigrant, from Devon. Josh’s great-grandmother Elizabeth was the daughter of Michael Smith, an Alsatian immigrant, and of Mary Catherine, who was born in Canada.

Josh is a second cousin, once removed, of Nobel Prize-winning physiologist Brian Kobilka. He is a third cousin of actress Sarah Steele. Josh’s paternal great-great-grandfather, John P. Kobilka/Kobylka, was a brother of Sarah’s paternal great-great-grandfather, Thomas Wenzel Kobilka.

Josh’s maternal grandfather was William Alva LeFevre (the son of Philip D. LeFevre and Grace Edna Oakley). William was born in Tarrytown, New York, and had some deep lines in America. Philip was the son of Peter D. LeFevre and Margaret Elizabeth Blass. Grace was the daughter of William B. Oakley and Julia Duryea Wicks.

William Alva was apparently mostly of English descent, with a fair amount of Dutch, and more distant German and Scottish. The surname “LeFevre” may indicate some degree of French too.

Josh’s maternal grandmother was Betty May/Mae Thomas (the daughter of William Reuben Thomas and Elizabeth Smith). Betty was born in New York. William was a Canadian emigrant, the son of William Thomas, whose father was Scottish, and Mary Elizabeth Tucker, an English emigrant from Devon.Josh’s great-grandmother Elizabeth was the daughter of Michael Smith, an Alsatian emigrant, and Mary Catherine, who was born in Canada.

Maurer sounds very germanic and not particularly. Perhaps/Probably, Wenzel was descended of the many Germans who used to live in the West Slavic countries.

      “Prussian”

I’ve made my thoughts known about this. Unless we’re talking about the old Baltic group, there is no such things as “Prussians,” anymore. They would simply be German. Real Prussian people were assimilate and mixed into Germanic peoples many, many centuries ago.

What I feel pretty confident of saying is that Wenzel/Wenzil Henry Maurer was most likely a Sudeten German giving that he was born in Bohemia. Germans had been in Bohemia since at least the 12th or 13th century.

        • andrew says:

“Sudeten German” was also my option, but I cited “Prussian” because that is how his notable relative’s ancestors are described.

Carla Bruni’s biological father Maurizio Remmert is also cited as being from a family of Prussian origin who settled in Turin in mid 1800s.

          • 55Delray says:

I know for a fact that the family was Sudeten German, not Prussian. This Maurer family lived in the Jindřichův Hradec District of South Bohemia since before 1700.

Josh Lucas and Brian Kobilka are second cousins, once removed

Josh’s paternal great-great-grandparents, John P. Kobilka and Anna Hoffhansel, were also Brian’s paternal great-grandparents
