Her aunt is actress, singer, and author Marlène Jobert. Joséphine’s cousins are actress and model Eva Green and singer and actress Elsa.

Joséphine’s father was born in Algeria, of French, Sephardi Jewish, and Spanish background (considered to be Pied-Noir), with roots in Birkhadem. Her mother is from Martinique, and Joséphine has stated that she has Martiniquais and Spanish ancestry. She is also said to have Chinese ancestry from her mother.

Joséphine’s paternal grandfather was Charles Jobert (the son of an unknown father and Augustine Jobert). Charles was born in Dijon, Côte-d’Or, France. Augustine was the daughter of an unknown father and Madeleine Jobert, who was of French background.

Joséphine’s paternal grandmother was Éliane/Andrée Azoulay/Azulay (the daughter of Abraham Azulay and María Joaquina Blanca de la Santísima Trinidad García Martín). Éliane was born in Birkhadem, Algiers. Abraham was Sephardi Jewish, from Algiers, and was the son of Josúe Azulay and Mazaltob Dahan. María Joaquina was Spanish, from Bonares, Huelva, Andalucia, and was the daughter of Joaquín García and Josefina Martín.

the correct second link is this (Genealogy of her father): https://gw.geneanet.org/gntstarjobertmarle0?lang=en&pz=marlene&nz=jobert&m=A&p=charles&n=jobert&oc=2&siblings=on&notes=on&t=T&v=6&image=on&marriage=on&full=on

    Her mother is black/mixed-race, likely a African/French mix. Spanish-Martiniquais? I doubt it.

It doesn’t say that her mother is Spanish-Martiniquais, it says that she is of Martiniquais and Spanish descent. The Martiniquais part probably includes African to some degree.

Well if you want to be precise, most people who are French, have origins do have Spanish/Portuguese from ancestry considering how France and Spain are next to each other. It could be Basque, Catalan, etc. or she has Spanish ancestry from elsewhere of Spain.

      • andrew says:

        Not in that sense.

France and Spain are separated by the Pyrénées, and unless it’s from immigrants post 1939 (when Franco took power), the French have no Iberian ancestry.

However there’s a cultural continuum between the Basque Country of Spain and the part under French flag.
Also the French town of Perpignan has a strong Catalan identity.
