His father is from Egypt, and his mother is Irish. His paternal grandfather was Syrian. Jonathan was baptized in the Greek Orthodox Church, and later converted to Catholicism. He has been a ministry leader, an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion within the Catholic Church, and a vice president on the boards of non-profit media companies Catholics in Media Associates and G.K. Chesterton Theatre Company.
