Jonas Gahr Støre is a Norwegian politician. He has served as Prime Minister of Norway, since 14 October, 2021. He has also been Leader of the Labour Party, since 14 June, 2014, and a Member of the Storting for Oslo, since 1 October, 2009. He was previously Minister of Foreign Affairs, from 17 October, 2005 to 21 September, 2012, Minister of Health and Care Services, from 21 September, 2012 to 16 October, 2013, and Leader of the Opposition, from 14 June, 2014 to 14 October, 2021.
His father, Ulf Jonas Støre, was a wealthy ship broker. His mother, Unni Gahr, was a librarian. Prime Minister Støre is married to sociologist and priest in the Church of Norway, Marit Slagsvold, with whom he has three sons.
Prime Minister Støre’s patrilineal line can be traced back to his ninth great-grandfather, Oluff Østborg.
Prime Minister Støre’s paternal grandfather was business executive Jonas Henry Paulsen Støre (the son of Paul Edvard Jonassen Støre and Inger Elisabeth Marienborg). Jonas was born in Levanger, Nord-Trøndelag, now part of Trøndelag, and was the CEO and chairman of explosives manufacturer Norsk Sprængstofindustri. Paul was a Conservative politician, who was a mayor and deputy member of the Norwegian parliament from Levanger. The family were wealthy farmers in Trøndelag. Paul was the son of Jonas Nilsen Myhr, later Støre, and Sigrid Oline Olsdatter Moe. Prime Minister Støre’s great-grandmother Inger was the daughter of Gunder Pedersen Marienborg and Berit Steffensdatter Holandsvall.
Prime Minister Støre’s paternal grandmother was Karin Helena Bohman (or Carin Helene Bohman in Norwegian, the daughter of Carl August Boman, later Karl August Bohman, and of Jenny Helena Hedborg). Karin was born in Stockholm, Sweden. Karl was the son of Carl Gustaf Boman and Christina Frederica/Fredrica Carlberg. Jenny was the daughter of Carl Axel Hedborg and Anna Mathilda Lithander.
Prime Minister Støre’s maternal grandfather was Johannes Nielsen (later Gahr, the son of Lauritz Nielsen and Thora Margrete Larsen). Johannes was born in Fredrikstad, Østfold, now part of Viken. Lauritz was the son of Nils Hansen and Lovise Hansdatter Hornes. Thora was the daughter of Carl Ludvig Larsen and Lovise Amundsen.
Prime Minister Støre’s maternal grandmother was Thordis Haslum Fritzner (the daughter of Carl Theodor Dahl Fritzner and Anna Magdalena Thally Haslum). Thordis was born in Kristiania, now Oslo. Carl was the son of Andrias Olaves Jørgen Gottlieb Fritzner, who was of part Danish and German descent, and of Theodora Marie Dahl. Anna was the daughter of Jørgen Hansen Haslum and Thale Johanne Erlandsen.
Prime Minister Støre’s matrilineal line can be traced back to his seventh great-grandmother, Ellen Hansdatter.
