Jim McGovern is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he has been a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Massachusetts, since January 3, 1997, and Chair of the House Rules Committee, since January 3, 2019.

Jim is the son of Mary Ann (Konopka) and Walter F. McGovern. He is married to Lisa Murray McGovern, with whom he has two children.

Jim’s paternal grandfather was Alexander Joseph McGovern, Jr. (the son of Alexander Joseph McGovern and Grace Madeline Kelly). Jim’s grandfather Alexander was born in Massachusetts.
