Ishan Khatter is an Indian actor. His roles include the films Dhadak, A Suitable Boy, and Phone Boot, and the show The Perfect Couple.
He is the son of actors Neelima Azeem and Rajesh Khattar. His mother is also a classical dancer and writer. His father was born in New Delhi, into a Khatri family. His mother was born in Patna, Bihar. His maternal half-brother is actor Shahid Kapoor.
Ishaan’s maternal grandfather was Anwar Azeem (the son of Khwaja Ahmad Abbas and Mujtabai Khatoon). Anwar was born in Bihar, and was a Marxist journalist and Urdu author. Khwaja and Mujtabai were cousins. Khwaja was a film director, screenwriter, novelist, and journalist. He was born in Panipat, Punjab, British India, now Panipat, Haryana, India, the son of Khwaja Ghulam-us Sibtain, a scholar and social reformer, and of Masroor Khatoon. His grandfather was Urdu poet Altaf Hussain Hali.
Ishaan’s maternal grandmother was named Khadija. Khadija was a relative of Ishaan’s great-grandfather Khwaja Ahmad Abbas.
Ishaan’s mother belongs to to the Ansari family of Panipat. Her patrilineal line can be traced back to Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (died c. 674 CE). Ayyub was a close companion of the prophet Muhammad. The Ansaris of Panipat are known for their contributions to Urdu poetry.
