Gael García Bernal is a Mexican actor, director, and producer. He is known for starring in the films Amores perros, Y tu mamá también, The Motorcycle Diaries, and Old. He has also directed the films Déficit (2007), segments of 8 (2008) and Madly, which he also wrote; and Chicuarotes. He has often collaborated with Diego Luna.
Gael is the son of José Ángel García Huerta, an actor and director, and Patricia Bernal Lamarque, an actress and model. His maternal half-siblings are actors Darío Yazbek Bernal and Tamara Yazbek.
He has two children with his former partner, Argentinian actress Dolores Fonzi; and one child with his partner, Mexican journalist Fernanda Aragonés.
Gael’s maternal grandmother is named María Lamarque Sáenz. The surname Lamarque can indicate Southwest French or Basque ancestry.

“Y tu mamá también” is a great movie
Why are people trying to push so hard that he is 90% or 100% Spanish European descent, instead of just Mexican. In all of his interviews, he has never stated he is more European than Amerindian, he just classifies himself as Mexican (He can be mestizo, I see very obvious Native American features on him ) and he is proud of that. One can’t just say that he is mostly Spanish European just because he has green eyes and lighter skin than the stereotyped Mexican. Mexicans can have green eyes and lighter skin and still have a SLIGHTLY higher Native American descent than Spanish. Yeah Mexican is a nationality consisting of mostly Native Americans/European (Spanish and French mostly)/Black, but if he is, he can be a mixture of other European descent, but we will just have to hear from him. For all of you, in denial that he is Mexican and claims he is a white Mexican, you can’t just make up of these things, just hear it from him, but no he states he is from Mexico, is Mexican, and likes being Mexican.
He is heavily Spanish from Spain, probably 90%. That said the majority of Mexicans have Spanish blood regardless of how they look.
Its very rare to see mexicans like him. If a mexican is white looking trust me its because they are just europeans that were born in mexico but are not true blooded mexican. Like the ones from their soap operas, most of their actors are from european or argentine descendant.
A large portion of Mexicans are of European descent which is why “Mexican” isn’t classified as a race but rather an ethnicity. The Spanish conquered Mexico leaving the people with an entirely new language and customs and traditions etc., and so really Mexicans are a hybrid of both Indigenous and European ancestry which might explain why some or rather a good amount of Mexicans have colored eyes and white skin or either one. For instance my family is Mexican and my sister has white skin whereas I have an olive complexion and my cousin’s grandfather had blue eyes but she has brown. . . My main point is you can’t really classify a Mexican all too well. . . in the end it may just be a nationality or a tradition or a set customs and values.
