Ernie Kovacs was an American comedian, actor, and writer. His films included Operation Mad Ball, Bell, Book and Candle, Our Man in Havana, Wake Me When It’s Over, North to Alaska, and Pepe.

Ernie was the son of Mary (Chebonicvk) and Andrew John Kovacs, who was a policeman, restaurateur, and bootlegger. His father was born in Tornaújfalu, Hungary, now Turnianska Nová Ves, Slovakia. His mother was born in New Jersey, to Hungarian parents.

He was married to comedian, actress, singer, and businessperson Edie Adams, until his death. He had two children with his former wife Bette Wilcox; and a daughter with Edie.

Ernie’s paternal grandfather was named Andras Kovacs.

Ernie’s paternal grandmother was named Maria Juhasz. Maria was born in Szigliget, Hungary.

Ernie’s maternal grandfather was named John Csebrenyak.

Ernie’s maternal grandmother was named Susánna Toronya.
