Erin O’Toole is a Canadian politician and Royal Air Force veteran. He was Leader of the Conservative Party, and Leader of the Opposition, both, from August 24, 2020 to February 2, 2022, and has also been a Member of Parliament for Durham (ON), since November 26, 2012, and Minister of Veterans Affairs, from January 5, 2015 to November 4, 2015.

Erin is the son of Mollie/Molly (Hall) and John O’Toole, a politician, who was a Member of the Ontario Provincial Parliament, for Durham East and then Durham, overall from June 8, 1995 to June 13, 2014. His father is Canadian-born, from Peterborough, and is of Irish descent. His mother was an English emigrant to Canada, who was born in Brixworth, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire.

Erin was raised in Port Perry and Bowmanville, Ontario. He is married to Rebecca, with whom he has two children.

Erin’s paternal grandfather was Clarence Michael “Claire”/”Clair” O’Toole (the son of Michael Joseph O’Toole and Hannah Powers). Clarence was born in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Erin’s great-grandfather Michael was the son of John O’Toole, who was born in Bansha Parish, Cty, Tipperary, Ireland, and of Margaret Lonergan, who was born in Duro, Ontario, to Irish parents. Erin’s great-grandmother Hannah was the daughter of Thomas Powers, whose parents were Irish, his father from Cork and his mother from Down; and of Hannorah Hallahan, whose parents were also Irish.

Erin’s paternal grandmother was Ruth Annabelle/Annabel Driscoll (the daughter of Denis/Dennis Joseph Driscoll and Clara Jane Johnston). Ruth was born in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Denis was the son of Florence Driscoll and Bridget Crawley, who were of Irish origin, with roots in Mitchelstown, Cork, and in Limerick. Clara was born in Peterborough, the daughter of Irish-born parents, John Johnston and Ruth Bella/Isabella McBrien/McBride.

Erin’s maternal grandfather was named Ernest Ronald Hall. Ernest was born in England.

Erin’s maternal grandmother was named Marjorie “Madge” Shaw (the daughter of John Shaw and Lettie). Marjorie was born in Stafford, England.
