Dominic Raab is a British politician. A member of the Conservative Party, he has served as First Secretary of State, and Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, both, from 24 July, 2019 to 15 September, 2021; and as Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and Secretary of State for Justice, Lord Chancellor, both, from 15 September, 2021 to 6 September, 2022, and again, from 25 October, 2022 to 21 April, 2023. He has been a Member of Parliament for Esher and Walton, since 6 May, 2010, and was also Minister of State for Courts and Justice, from 12 June, 2017 to 9 January, 2018, Minister of State for Housing and Planning, from 9 January, 2018 to 9 July, 2018, and Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, from 9 July, 2018 to 15 November, 2018.

Dominic’s father, Peter Alexander Raab, was a Czech Jew, who came to England in 1938, at the age of six, as a refugee from the Nazis. He was born in Pilsen, Plzeň-City District, Plzeň Region, Czech Republic.

Dominic’s mother, Jean, is English-born, and has English, some Scottish and Cornish, and more distant German, ancestry.

Dominic was raised in the Church of England.

He is married to Brazilian, marketing executive Erika Rey, with whom he has two children.

Dominic’s paternal grandfather was Josef/Joseph Raab (the son of Moritz Raab and Johanna Goldstein). Josef was born in Budapest, Hungary, to a Jewish family. Moritz was the son of Sandor Raab. Johanna was the daughter of David Goldstein and Netti.

Dominic’s paternal grandmother was Hilde/Hilda J. Simon (the daughter of Carl Simon and Ida Neubauer). Hilde was born in Rybare, Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic, to a Jewish family. Carl was born in Cheb, the son of Isak Simon and Rosina Schalkenstein. Ida was born in Kosslau, Kozlov, Jihlava District, the daughter of Adolf Neubauer and Klara Riess.

Dominic’s maternal grandfather was Robert Ernest Rennie (the son of Robert Rennie and Beatrice Pomfret). Dominic’s grandfather Robert was born in Manly, New South Wales, Australia, to parents, who were both born in Blackburn, Lancashire, England. Dominic’s great-grandfather Robert was the son of John Rennie, who was born in Perth, Scotland, and of Jane. Beatrice was the daughter of Rodger Pomfret and Alice Ann Cowell.

Dominic’s maternal grandmother was Florence May Keast (the daughter of Francis Alfred Keast and Annie Eliza “Flo” Morris). Dominic’s grandmother Florence was born in Camberwell, London, England. Francis was the son of William Arthur Keast, who had Cornish ancestry, and of Jane Frances Fautley. Dominic’s great-grandmother Annie was the daughter of William Thomas Henry Morris/Morriss and Anna Louisa “Annie” Metternich; whose own father, John Metternich, was from Homberg, Nassau, Germany.

    So “Keast” is Cornish, in fact it was an odd one.

    Metternich? I would not be surprised at all if he is related in some way to that Metternich.
