Looks like you were right, Follers, Gibson was not her father’s original surname. It was Schultz.

The Italian/Sicilian, German, Russian is all her mother. “possibly other” should be added since her father’s ancestry is not known, but he is probably from a ‘Gibson’ family.
How do you know it’s all from her mother? The statement is unclear.
Debbie’s father was orphaned as a boy and Debbie says that “he is unsure of his roots”. ‘Gibson’ is not typically a German, Italian or Russian name.

I’m pretty sure that was always his name. At 01:14 in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tk4f_yk9j-U it shows a paper clipping of Joe as a boy with other orphans and the caption says “Joe Gibson”. I don’t think he would be given that name as an orphan…??

He was an orphan, but I don’t think he was ever legally adopted. His birth name is Joseph Gibson. (as seen from the newspaper article clipping in the video)
