Daya’s paternal grandmother is named Monika Dettmers. Monika was born in Poznań, Germany, in present-day Poland.

Daya’s maternal grandfather is Eugene G. Illig (the son of Cyril Augustine Illig and Cecelia Loretta Sharp). Cyril was the son of Henry Augustine Illig, who was of German descent, and of Anne/Anna Elizabeth Crouse. Cecelia was the daughter of Joseph Sharp and Elizabeth Fogle.
