    Correction.

I checked the censuses avaible on ancestry.com. In 1915 Dana’s grandfather Henri listed his birth place as Russia, in 1920 he listed his birth place as New York but cited his parents as Russian, with their mother tongue being Yiddish. In 1925 the birthplace reverted to Russia, in 1930 it was still Russia, but he listed his parents’ language as Russian, the census from 1940 again listed his birthplace as Russia. On his draft card in 1942 he listed his birthplace as Leningrad specifically.

So everything that’s posted about him is pretty spot on and I’d definitely wager Henri was Jewish. So I’m not really correcting anything, just helping confirm the data.

On a related note Dana’s father Robert is listed on the 1925 and 1930 censuses as having the middle name Henri.

Thank you. The “Yiddish” part definitely confirms that Henri was Jewish.

I wonder if you could figure out if Ansel Elgort’s paternal grandmother was Jewish? That’s a tough one. His grandfather was Jewish for sure. His grandmother’s family lived in a mostly Jewish neighborhood in 1910.
