Bruno Heller is a British screenwriter, producer, and director. He co-created the show Rome, created the shows The Mentalist and Gotham, and co-developed the show Pennyworth, as well as being a writer on all of the above.

Bruno is the son of Caroline and Lukas Heller, a screenwriter. His father was an emigrant, from Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and was of Ashkenazi Jewish and German descent. His mother was English, and from a Quaker family. Bruno’s sister is journalist and novelist Zoë Heller. His paternal half-aunt was author, journalist, and Holocaust survivor Cordelia Edvardson. Bruno is married to writer, novelist, and television developer Miranda Cowley Heller, with whom he has two children.

Bruno’s paternal grandfather was Hermann Heller (Hermann Ignatz Heller, the son of Dr. Jakob Heller and Hermine Fischer). Hermann was born in Teschen, Silesia, Austria-Hungary, and was a legal scholar and philosopher, active in the non-Marxist wing of the SPD. He was from a Jewish family. Jakob was born in Bobrek, Sosnowiec, śląskie, Poland, the son of Cilli. Hermine was born in Břeclav District, South Moravian Region, Czechia, the daughter of Alexander Fischer and Julie Redlich.

Bruno’s paternal grandmother was Gertrud Falke (the daughter of Gustav Falke and Anna Theen). Gertrud was a dancer. Gustav was a writer, and was the son of Johann Friedrich Christian Falke and Elisabeth Franziska Hoyer. Gustav was a nephew of historians Johannes Falke and Jacob von Falke, and a cousin of translator Otto Falke.

Bruno’s maternal grandfather’s surname was Carter.
